by Jaime Salom translated by Gregary Racz Rigmaroles reimagines Golden Age author Juan Timoneda's domestic turmoil precipitated by a change in political winds. Throughout the play, audiences revel in the foibles of protagonists who, in their search for self-determination, never quite manage to escape the spectre of tyrannical authority. Jaime Salom was one of the leading dramatists of Spain in the late 20th century. He first appeared on the scene in the late 1940s, but rose to prominence in the 1960s. His body of work is comprised of more than 40 plays that often were speaking truth to power, though always through the lens of light comedy. With a career that spanned from the post-War era through to his death in 2013, Jaime Salom was one of Spain's modern literary giants. Dr. Gregary Racz has just retired from a long-time tenure as Professor of Foreign Languages and Literature at Long Island University, Brooklyn, specializing in translation studies, literary theory, comparative literature, and poetics. He is a past president of the American Literary Translators Association. His translations of Fuenteovejuna (Lope de Vega - Norton Anthology) and Calderon's Life is a Dream (Penguin) are recognized as definitive English translations of Spanish Golden Age classics. |

What is Cold Reads/Cold Brews?
- Cold Reads/Cold Brews is a monthly gathering of people interested in reading plays while quaffing a beverage of choice at a local public house.
- It is also a way that Latitude Theatre brings our programming out into the public of Seattle.
- Beyond that, Cold Reads/Cold Brews is the primary method that Latitude Theatre uses to evaluate scripts for future full productions.
- So... we gather, we read plays, we talk about plays, we sip a beer (or other tasty drink), we have some laughs, we have some fries, and in the end, we have fun together, while experiencing life through the words of playwrights from all over the world.
