Stage Combat Class: March 29 - June 14

Unarmed Combat Skills (SAFD - SPT Class)

with Paul Ray (SAFD - Certified Teacher)

This class will cover basic techniques needed to create a safe and effective fight for the stage. Students learn the basics of all aspects of unarmed stage combat, falling, grappling, punches, kicks, etc. Particular attention will be paid to the safety required to perform fights as well as how to connect stage combat techniques to text, character and intention.​

Paul Ray is a Certified Teacher recognized by the Society of American Fight Directors since 2016. Paul holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting  from Cornish College of the Arts as well as a Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College. Paul studied for many years under CT/FD Bob MacDougall and Fight Master Geof Alm. Paul's performance movement pedagogy includes the study of core movement and kinesthetic energy exchange in the safe application of stage combat. Paul took his first Skills Proficiency Test in 1994.

Paul says:   "Along with safety techniques, there will also be an emphasis on performance movement awareness. The story of violence onstage must be safe and proficient for those stepping into a dynamic moment under lights. This class will end in a test of memorized choreography and a scene adjudicated by a SAFD Fight Master. I am excited to launch into the most prolific form of violence onstage in Unarmed."

CLASS INFO:
When? -- March 29 - June 14 -- Sundays: 10am - 1pm (Test day will be June 14 during class hours)
Where? -- Latitude Theatre's Studio 103 (University Heights Center - 5031 University Way NE, Seattle, WA 98105)
Cost? -- $350.  Includes SAFD Testing Fee.  (Payment Plan is available)
What you need to bring? -- Water bottle.  Dress for movement (Please no jeans). Knee pads are strongly suggested, but will not be provided.
